In the scientific report of VNIICR for 2006 on the topic "Determination of residual bromides in quarantine plant products after disinfection with methyl bromide", it is indicated: "According to G. Monroe, the author of the well-known fumigation manual, the amount of such residues when consumed is very small to threaten human health (to obtain a dangerous dose of bromide salts, it is required to eat more than 130 kg of apples disinfected with methyl bromide)."
In different countries, the maximum permissible levels of bromides in products (MDU) vary significantly. In the European Union, no more than 30 mg/kg of MDU of bromides is established in citrus fruits and strawberries; in nuts 50 mg / kg; in the fruits of pome and stone crops 20 mg / kg; grapes, avocados, bananas, mangoes, papaya 50 mg / kg; tomatoes, cucumbers and potatoes 50 mg/kg; in onions, garlic, cabbage 30 mg / kg; watermelons and melons 30 mg/kg.
